Kalyanjit Das is a super-brilliant sitar player devoted to maintaining the classicality of Hindustani Raga Music, focuses on aesthetically rich musical expressions, goes with natural verve with interesting rhythmic plays, and loves musical intricacies blended with finesse with skill. Kalyanjit’s music often generates uniquely elevating listening experiences. Kalyanjit connects to Senia Maihar style of sitar playing.

Kalyanjit’s music often generates uniquely elevating listening experiences.

A widely performed musician, Kalyanjit, presented sitar recitals in many major music festivals around India and internationally.  He did extensive musical tours in France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA and received high acclamations.

Kalyanjit is a proud son of the living music legend, Pandit Kushal Das. He is fortunate to share the stage with his illustrious father in different concerts worldwide, which helped in his exponential musical growth.   

Kalyanjit started learning the sitar at the age of three under the guidance of his father; He is also receiving training in advanced sitar techniques and the art of music-making from Pt. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay. His mother, Smt. Sujata Das initiated him in vocal training, and he now receives guidance from Ud. Rashid Khan as well.  He received guidance in  Talas, Layas, and their variations from Sri Biplab Bhattacharya, Pt. Subhankar Banerjee, and Pt. Shankar Ghosh.

Kalyanjit received several awards, fellowships, and scholarships and won national-level music competitions. Among them is the coveted AIR Music Competition,  where he stood first and received President’s Award. He received National Scholarship [senior] from the Department of Culture, Government of India.

Kalyanjit feels fortunate to receive the opportunity to be on stage with top-notch tabla players and receive blessings from the huge listening public. His long performance list includes his recital at the Bengal Foundation Music Festival in Dhaka, the World’s most-attended Indian Classical Music Festival.

Kalyanjit is a regular broadcaster from All India Radio and National Television Channel – Doordarshan. He is a junior faculty member for sitar at the Bengal Parampara Sangeetalaya, a music academy under Bengal Foundation, Dhaka, where India’s phenomenal musicians have been inducted for teaching.
