Quickly about Samanwaya
Samanwaya Sarkar, a highly acclaimed Sitarist, boasts prestigious awards like the National Award and President’s Award. Known for his mesmerizing Sitar performances, he skillfully blends Tantrakaari ang with vocal music styles. Under the tutelage of renowned musicians like Pt. Manilal Nag and Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi, along with his other illustrious Gurus, he developed a unique musical style. Collaborating with young vocalists, he maintains the traditional balance between tantrakaari ang and gayaki ang.
Samanwaya also contributed additional music for the Australian film “The Sleeping Warrior.” As co-director of the documentary “Girija: A Lifetime In Music,” he received the 65th National Award for Best Documentary on Art and Culture. He is a founder trustee of the non-profit trust SUR and has won numerous first prizes in instrumental competitions, including the Rajya Sangeet Academy and HMV Golden Talent. Additionally, he was a recipient of the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, from 2003 to 2005.
